To familiarize potentialinvestors with the opportunities and the priorities of the government, Embassyof India, Beijing organized ‘Investing in India’ Seminar at Qingdao on 7th November, 2014 as part of the series of events planned under ‘Make in India’campaign, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on 25September 2014.
The business event was attendedby more than 130 representatives from 93 Chinese companies, 6chambers/association and officials from the Qingdao Government. AmbassadorAshok K. Kantha addressed the participants underscoring the particularresonance of ‘Make in India’ initiative for Chinese companies especially in infrastructureand manufacturing. He highlighted the successful visit of President Xi Jinpingto India in September, 2014 during which both governments laid emphasis onboosting bilateral investment flows. The event was attended by Vice Mayor ofQingdao Mr Liu Mingjun.
Emerging opportunities in themanufacturing sector and India’s industrial corridors were highlighted through apresentation by Counsellor Namgya Khampa. The government is taking up new projects and initiatives in thisdirection and is committed to removing all bottlenecks for developing India’smanufacturing sector and facilitating foreign investments. A handbook on the“Make in India’ initiative was also disseminated at the event.
During his visit to Qingdao,Ambassador Ashok K. Kantha also met Mr Li Qun, Party Secretary of Qingdao andsenior officials from Qingdao Municipal Government. The two sides discussedvarious areas of cooperation.
Ambassador Ashok K. Kantha alsoinaugurated the India Film Week at Qingdao on 7th November. Theevent was attended by Mr Li Haitao, Vice Secretary General of Qingdao MunicipalGovernment. The inaugural ceremony drew participation from local dignitaries,media and people from different walks of life. A local chorus group also sang a popular Hindi number from the 1980s.India Film Week in Qingdao is part of the Embassy’s efforts to take the IndianFilm Festival which was inaugurated in Beijing on 21st August, 2014to different cities of China. Around 6 Indian movies will be screened over aperiod of one week in Qingdao.
